How much does it cost to clean a wedding dress?

Q. I am about to sell my wedding dress. It will need to be cleaned so I don't want to overprice it and then that person have to pay to get it cleaned also. Just cleaned, not preserved in middle TN. Thanks

A. Do you have a customer in mind? If so, I would give her a credit for the cleaning, because if she has any alterations done, she will probably want to send it to a cleaners for pressing.

I paid $225 for my daughter's dress, but that was also for preserving.

Good luck.

Is there a safe way to clean a wedding dress yourself?
Q. What is the best way to clean a wedding dress? Its just the bottom of my dress that got dirty (outside wedding) and I didn't want to have to take it to someone if there was a way for me to do it myself. Thanks!

A. no...leave it alone or take it to the dry cleaners. the fabric may be something than cannot be washed or has a weird finish on it...also a dry cleaner will clean and package it for you to store.

How to dry clean a wedding dress made of satin?
Q. I bought my wedding dress from China and there are no dry cleaning instructions attached to the dress! The cleaners are not sure how to clean the dress! It is made of Satin and is very plain. No beads! Does anyone have instructions on how to clean this dress!

A. Take it to your dry cleaner. They will know what to do with it. They clean all wedding gowns regardless of their fabric or detail and offer proper storage for them as well. If your present cleaners can't figure it out, take it to another.

Where to get my wedding dress cleaned?
Q. So, I have my grandmother's wedding dress (roughly 60 years old) and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get it cleaned and sealed to preserve it. There is no budget, I am willing to pay, and I want it to be a professional, nice place. Boston/New York are the best locations. Leave me the link to your question so I can answer yours! Thanks so much!

A. I used Madame Paulette's (in NYC) to have my wedding dress cleaned. They did a nice job, although they didn't seal & preserve it (they gave it to me in a large box which isn't airtight). They can probably do that for you, if you request it.

They can be very pricey, just fyi.

Can shoe polish be removed from a wedding dress by dry cleaning?
Q. Can shoe polish be removed from a wedding dress by dry cleaning?

A. Call a dry cleaner and ask. They'll probably want to know what kind of fabric it is, and what color of shoe polish.
