Jonathan

Hi I am traveling around the USA in April/May and whilst there I am looking to purchase a unique vintage wedding dress. My main stops in the USA are New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Florida, New Orleans, L.A, San Fran, Vegas. Can anyone recommend any shops, wedding fares, vintage shops which sell vintage wedding dresses.
Many Thanks,
Gemma

Try Ebay

Where can I find a mod vintage wedding or prom dress?

Q. By vintage I don't mean a dress made in the 70s and recycled. Like, clothes from mod clothes.com But that website doesn't really sell wedding or prom dresses. Please help, thank you.

Answer
Hey! I went to prom and I had a REALLY hard time trying to find a dress but I went practically everywhere and I found great dresses at Betsey Johnson and since I went to an outlet store it was like 70% off or something!

What does it mean that a wedding dress is vintage but I can buy it from her?

Mona Realm

I asked a complete stranger on Facebook where she got her dress but I told her that I'm not engaged I just want a dress like that when I do get married.

She said it's vintage but I can buy it off her. But I am poor. I'm sure that nice modest looking dress is worth more than 1k!

I saw her in a wedding aisle dance video on Youtube

Answer
it just means that the dress is genuinely old....made in another era and that she is selling it. if you are not engaged, there is no point in buying a wedding dress. when you do become engaged, if you want a vintage wedding gown, there are plenty of places to buy them and they are not that expensive. just wait until you need one and then look up "vintage wedding gowns" or "vintage style wedding gowns" and you will see lots.

Where can I find retro style wedding dresses online that aren't vintage?

I'm looking for a cute, retro style white dress, preferably not floor length for my wedding in April. I don't even know where to start. Search engines keep directing me to true "vintage" gowns, but I'm mostly just looking for a fifties style. Does anyone have any pointers?

Altering a vintage wedding dress?

Missy Simm

I am planning on wearing my Fiancee's grandmother's wedding dress. Some minor alterations are needed as she had a larger chest and smaller arms than me. Does anyone know of any reliable places for alterations around the Western to Central part of Oklahoma. The dress is well kept brocade silk.

Answer
The best way to find a qualified seamstress is to go to a fabric store and ask the ladies at the cutting counter if they can recommend someone who can help you. Avoid dry cleaner seamstresses. Although they are good at hemming and other alterations, they do not specialize and are unlikely to have experience in heirloom reconstruction. Ask everyone you know if they know a seamstress and you are bound to find someone to take the bust in and let the arms out or add gussets under the armcye. If you are unable to find someone local, you may have to expand your search into the nearest city.

If the dress needs to be cleaned, please do so before bringing it to your seamstress. Sometimes old clothing falls apart when cleaned and the last thing you want to do is have and pay for this dress to be altered and have it fall apart during the dry cleaning process. Better to know what you have to work with before alterations, so do have the garment professionally dry cleaned, okay?
