I have just started looking at wedding dresses but I dont know what would look good on me. I am 5'7 and a size 24. Does anyone know what style dresses would flatter my body? Thanks!

Answer
When I got married, I was your size, just two inches taller.
I really wasn't sure, either, what would look good til I started trying dresses on. I was hoping to find a very traditional gown, and I really lucked out. Sorry, I don't have a pic or link - but the BEST thing to look out for was a gown with a basque waist - it's extremely flattering (and comfortable) because it is an a-line style, and the fabric just flows over the tummy and hips, hiding things as much as it can! My weight was in my belly, not butt or boobs... (lol) apple. rather than pear-shaped.
Even though I got married in summer, my gown was long sleeved, scoop neck, cathedral train - of heavy bridal satin. It just gave me a lovely silhouette. Wearing a fingertip veil and small tiara worn right in front of the veil kind of just completed the look.
(yes, I know I'm not Avril - and my hair was short)

I found the trick was to go fairly classic in style - not too much pouf, but more towards 'flowing'. Don't go strapless - have some sort of sleeve, or straps - it makes the line of your body 'taller' and not dumpy.
Here's an example of some dresses with a basque waist -

Lots of choices on this site -

Just try lots of different styles on - don't judge a dress on a hanger - try it! Plus, if the choices I've suggested are too formal for what you want, there are tons of informal dresses for plus beautiful women, too!
Happy shopping, and good luck!
*Sorry, know this is already long, but something to add. When I found the gown I wanted, it 'just' zipped up. It was at a small bridal shop, and the very amazing seamstress inserted long vee-shaped inserts under each arm to let out the dress a bit up top. I say amazing because you could barely see a seam where she put in the extra fabric - and it cost about $80 to get this done (gown was close to $800).

How should you dress to try on wedding gowns and also how should you do your hair and makeup?

Sarasometi

I am going gown shopping and have a hair appointment before. Should I get my makeup done? Also what gowns might you suggest at David's bridals?

Answer
1] Start at the top:
1] hair - are you wearing it up or down for the wedding? Straight or curly? Wear it that way when you shop for gown and headpiece.
2] makeup - no, don't get it 'done'. You have enough to worry about, besides smearing your makeup trying on dresses.
Wear your everday minimum - they will ask you to blot of lipstick etc. anyway.
3] wear a:
a] strapless bra - more neckline options
b] pantyhose
c] heels the height you want for wedding [ and closed or open toe ]
4] try on all the diiferent shades - white, ivory, off white; all different necklines, all different skirts, sleeves, waists.
Bring someone to help/take notes [ 'ooh, i like the neck, but not the sleeves'- illusion neck yes, bell sleeves no recorded in yes and no columns. ]
Then sales lady can help you find a gown with all the features you want.
Also bring one of your attendents to pick out their gowns, after you record all body types of your bridesmaids [ pear shaped, plus sized, petite, boy shaped, busty ].

What designers make wedding gowns with a true queen Ann neckline?

I am looking to find a gown with a high neck in back that cuts down to a sweet heart in the front. My mother is deceased and her dress was ruined in a flood. I am trying to find a dress that mimic hers.

NOTE: I am not interested in wearing a bolero jacket to suggest the same neckline.

How come all 1990s bridal wedding gowns were all long sleeved?

How come all 1990s bridal wedding gowns were all long sleeved? and these days they look a little more modern. I just want to know.

Answer
Because styles change alot, through the decades.

Dresses from the 80s-90s were very much inspired by Princess Diana's wedding dress.

Since the roywedding of Kate Middleton, we are seeing alot more lace in wedding dresses.

It's just the way things go, and have gone through out the ages.

where can i find inexpensive wedding gowns?

I'm planning a wedding on a budget and looking for a gown that is informal/casual to get married on the beach. My budget for the dress is around $300. Any ideas on stores to look rather than online only? I don't really trust what I can't see in person first. I'll be looking in the San Francisco area and San Diego area.

Answer
davids bridal... but i hate that store they are rip offs... NEVER PUT A DRESS IN LAY AWAY THERE LOL
