Where are the most affordable wedding dress shops in Michigan?
Q. I'm about to begin my wedding dress shopping and I was wondering where the most affordable wedding dress shops in Michigan are... Detroit, Grand Rapids, Northern Michigan, wherever. I'm hoping to stay around $500. Any suggestions? (David's Bridal is obvious) Thanks!

A. I got a great deal from Spring Lake Bridal in Nunica, MI. They are farther west than GR...somewhat in the middle of nowhere, but they have great customer service. I found some dresses there that I really liked for under $500. I ended up getting my dress from the clearance rack at a 1/4 of the original price. It is in great condition, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it--no reason for it to be only $150 except that they needed the room on the rack for the new spring line of dresses coming in.

Here's their website:

I am not a big fan of David's Bridal in Grand Rapids. In all honesty--they suck. I haven't been impressed with their customer service, and I have been there probably two or three times for my sister's wedding and my friend's wedding. I advise against them.

I also went to the Bridal Gallery in Grand Rapids. Although their customer service was great, the whole place was somewhat...shady. lol. They had way too many dresses (overpriced and not that nice, IMO) stuffed on the racks. It was overwhelming. Not to mention the "doors" on the fitting rooms were simply curtains. That was not fun.

A friend of mine had good luck at a large bridal warehouse-type-thing near Lansing, but I don't remember what it was called.

Don't even consider Diane Keith Bridal out of Holland. Last I heard, they were closing the business and all of the dresses were repossessed, even the ones that had down payments on them. I don't think their business is open at all anymore, but just in case they decide to re-start the business...I wouldn't trust them.

Good luck!

Can my fiance go wedding dress shopping with me?
Q. That is usually saved to the bridesmaids or mother of the bride but the live out of state. I don't have any girl friends here that I would be comfortable going dress shopping with. Do men usually go dress shopping? Is is some kind of taboo if we pick out a dress for the wedding and he sees me in it? I don't want to go by myself!

A. I was in the same situation. I had moved to England from the States, and I had no one to go with me. My husband went with me, and helped me pick out my dress. Even though he knew what my dress looked like, he was still surprised with my entire look when I walked down the aisle. He hadn't seen me with my hair and make up done, or with the jewelry. He never felt like I stole a moment from him, he was actually really happy he could help to pick out my dress.

I say go for it. I know in my case, my husband is my best friend. Why wouldn't you want to go shopping for something that important without your best friend?

Did you lose weight before you went wedding dress shopping?
Q. I'm planning on losing 10lbs which will be awesome!! Have any of you tried this b4 and how did you do it, or what prevented you from doing it?

A. Go shopping now, get a dress at your size now. If you lose weight, you'll be able to have the dress taken in. If you buy a dress in a smaller size thinking you will fit into it by the wedding, well, that's not a good idea. Most brides have the idea of losing weight before the wedding but guaranteed you'll have your mind on so much else you may not reach your goal weight before the date.

Congrats and good luck though!

Who did you bring with you when you went wedding dress shopping?
Q. I have a dress shopping appointment in two weeks and I'm wondering who I should bring. I definitely want to bring my mom. My sister wants to come and my cousin, but I'm afraid if I bring too many people I'll get so many opinions and won't be able to decide. So who did you bring and why?
May 28th I'm so excited!

A. I just took my mom. My MOH my fiances mom & 1 of my bridesmaids was suppose go with me but turns out they all forgot or just got busy. I'm very happy with just taking my Mom. She was the most honest person I could have bought. She was in tears the whole time telling me everything looked wonderful but still asked the tough questions like does it fit here here, can you sit in it. ect

My Mom, MOH & my brothers awesome girlfriend went with me, to pick the dress up when the ordered it in. We all cried it was wonderful!
