Q. I'd like to hand wash a cashmere sweater of mine. Would it be safe to wash it with a bit of baking soda mixed in cold water?
*Well i was thinking of applying the baking soda with cold water running and diluting the baking soda into the water before putting the sweater in. And then just putting the sweater gently in and out of the water a few times and running cold water through it to rinse it off. Would that still be a problem?

A. Sure you can. The sweater won't get clean, but you can do it.
How to fix a cashmere sweater after It got washed in a washer?
Q. It supposed to be hand clean. After the washer it is ruined and thick and hard is unwearable. Please help
A. I don't think it will be possible to take it to original feel. Cashmere is very delicate wool and needs care.
How do I wash my cashmere sweater and jacket?
Q. I just bought a cashmere sweater and jacket from Banana Republic, and I need to know how to go about washing and drying it because I think I ruined my last one.. Its not as soft.
A. 100% Cashmere needs care while washing. But hand washing at home with proper wool wash doesn't cause any problems. We are trading in cashmere so we have tried and tested it. People generally say on label to dry clean for being bit safe.
You can follow following instructions if you want to wash your cashmere at home:
1. Buy a wool detergent (not softener) from a nearby shop/store. It should say on the bottle that it is safe to wash wool. It comes cheap.
2. Take a luke warm water and mix the wool detergent into it (quantity should be as mentioned on bottle of wool detergent)
3. Keep cashmere in the above mixture of liquid for 15-20 minutes.
4. Hand wash gently and then use clean water to take detergent out of cashmere.
5. Hand squeeze as much water as possible from the cashmere. Don't wring. Wringing cashmere destroys shape of clothing sometimes.
6. Lay flat to dry on a clean sheet. Don't hang for drying.
Hope this helps you. Enjoy your cashmere sweater and jacket.

What happens when you machine wash a cashmere sweater?
Q. It was suppossed to be dry cleaned, but it accidentally ended up in the wash. It looks kind of stretched out now...I'm wondering if this could be due to the wash. But isn't it suppossed to shrink? Please tell me.
The thing is, it hasn't shrunk. It kind of looks stretched out oddly, but it is bigger than it was before....

A. You just lost probably a very expensive sweater. If it says dry clean, you have only 2 options: dry clean or hand wash. You dont have any other choices. You can ruin good clothes otherwise. Sorry.
How can I remove deodorant from a dry clean only cashmere sweater?
Q. Took it to the dry cleaner already and they couldn't get it out. (this is directed to the condescending smart ass who likes to write "wow" to be dramatic)
A. You can blot gently (a little water won't ruin it). Put something else (a towel, etc) behind the fabric so the stain has somewhere to soak into.
Or, if it's quite fuzzy, you can trim the fibers (the fuzz) on the surface and remove any stains that show.
If it doesn't smell good, I recommend doing the 1st two steps, and then draping it over a fan so the air bows through the weave and freshens it.
And eventually, get it properly drycleaned.
